Mission in Service to the New Evangelization
From Disciples Called to Witness: The New Evangelization, Part IV, p. 10
USSCB, Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis (2012), Washington DC:
“Christ teaches us how to evangelize, how to invite people into communion with him, and how to create a culture of witness: namely, through love. A Christian life lived with charity and faith is the most effective form of evangelization. Evangelization testifies to the transformative power of the Gospel and the mission of the Church to sanctify society, hand on the faith to future generations, strengthen the faith of her members, and renew the faith of those who have slipped away from the Church:
“Modern man listens more willingly to witnesses than to teachers, and if he does listen to teachers, it is because they are witnesses.” … It is therefore primarily by her conduct and by her life that the Church will evangelize the world, in other words, by her living witness of fidelity to the Lord Jesus – the witness of poverty and detachment, of freedom in the face of the powers of this world, in short, the witness of sanctity.” Evangelii Nuntiandi, no. 41
The faithful become agents of evangelization through living witness and commitment to the Gospel. The everyday moments of one’s life lived with Christian charity, faith and hope provide witness to family members, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and others who have stopped actively participating in the life of the Church. This witness is essential for reaching others in today’s modern world.”
From Disciples Called to Witness: The New Evangelization, Part IV, p. 13
USSCB, Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis (2012), Washington DC:
The Christian Family
“A culture of witness is sustained within the Church through marriage and the family. The communal relationship that exists between and among the three Persons of the Trinity is the model for Christian marriage (National Directory for Catechesis, no. 13) and through the Sacrament of Matrimony that the husband and wife evangelize, become evangelized, and share their witness of the faith to their children and to society. “Spouses, ‘not only receive the love of Christ and become a saved community, but they are also called upon to communicate Christ’s love to their brethren, thus becoming a saved community’ (cf. Familiaris Consortio, no.49a0. The family founded on the Sacrament of Matrimony is a particular realization of the Church, saved and saving, evangelized and evangelizing community” (Benedict XVI, Address to the Plenary Assembly of the Pontifical Council for the Family,www.radiovaticana.org/en1/articolo, asp?c_542493 (accessed December 1, 2011).
The family, called the domestic Church, (USCCB, pastoral letter Marriage: Love and Life in the Divine Plan (Washington,DC: USCCB, 2009) 38-42)
is often the first place where one experiences and is formed in the faith. In fact, “the new evangelization depends largely on the domestic Church” (Benedict XVI Address to the Plenary Assembly of the Pontifical Council for the Family, citation above). It is through the example of mothers and fathers, grandparents, siblings, and extended family members that one most concretely witnesses how to live a Christian life: “Family members learn more of the Christian life by observing each other’s strengths or weaknesses than by formal instruction. Their shared wisdom and experience often constitute a compelling Christian witness” (National Directory for Catechesis, no 29>D). It is vital that multiple generations, including grandparents, are engaged with the faith formation of younger family members. It is through the family that one journeying back to the faith can be awakened to, affirmed in, and encouraged by the love and mercy of Christ.”
Mission Statement
Forming Faithful Families™
Strengthening Families & Individuals in the Faith
We, the Littletons are privileged to be Christians, loyal members of the Catholic Church. Both we and our ministry are totally consecrated to Jesus through the Blessed Virgin Mary, who always brings us closer to our merciful Lord Jesus.
Our society and culture are suffering from much pain and disorder.
"Today’s religion is politics. People are obsessed with and consumed by politics.
But, no particular political ideology alone will solve all societal problems or bring the
happiness people innately hunger for." (Better by the Dozen, Plus Two) Radical
problems call for radical solutions.
We are convinced that the urgently needed antidote for the problems and confusion
of the day is a revolution of Daily Mass attendance and a deep, consistent
Eucharistic (including Adoration), sacramental and prayer life, devotion to daily reading and praying with scripture, the Word of God, profound devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and to praying the rosary, by faithful, convinced, sacrificial, risk-taking, generous familiesto help Jesus the Lord to transform the culture and society, to give glory to God and to help save souls. Be not afraid! All things are possible with God. God wants to be our All and for us to completely surrender to His love, to allow Him to transform us into pourers like Him (so we do not respond with drips).
We are called to people of HOPE! God invites us to be owned and moved by the
Holy Spirit, the Father of the Poor, to truly live our lives in joy and peace with a
liberating trust in Him. He invites us to be courageously counter-cultural, to be
chaste according to our state in life, to be open to life in marriage, to be
unapologetically pro-life, to be totally committed to the indissolubility of marriage, to be humble servants, to let the light of Christ shine and share our Faithwith example, service and words with others who are often spiritually starving.
He wants us to learn, know, accept, embrace, live and persevere in allthe truths of the Catholic Faith, no exceptions. This is not an imposition, but rather an outpouring of love from our Father of Mercies who always does everything for our good.
We must rest assured that God is with us. We are totally dependent on Him, and He is always faithful. He is in command. We need not be afraid. Not a single detail of our
life escapes his loving and beneficent providence.
We are making an effort to do our little part; little, yes, but just like your part, it is
indispensable and irreplaceable in God's loving plan of salvation.
You are invited to peruse our site which is always a work in progress. We ourselves,
sinners that we are, and trusting in God's infinite mercy, are very far from living perfectly the message of Truth that we preach; but at least we have the
destination and the road map to get there. We hope that our ministry is a help to
you in some way according to God's loving providence. We would love to hear from
you. Perhaps you are called to join us. Please contact us.
Jim and Kathleen Littleton have my heartfelt endorsement as speakers and catechists of our precious faith. Their kind and soft spoken approach to difficult and challenging Catholic topics is a blessing to our church. They rightly see the centrality of marriage issues in our culture wars today, yet seem to witness more with their lives than beating anyone over the head with the Bible or Encyclicals.
- Fr Thomas Koys, M.A.,S.T.L.Pastor St James at Sag Bridge, Lemont, IL
We want to share with you the joy of having received this Episcopal endorsement from Most Reverend Thomas John Paprocki for our apostolate, Forming Faithful Families. Thank you Bishop Paprocki!
Catechism of the Catholic Church
Para. 1655: Christ chose to be born and grow up in the bosom of the holy family of Joseph and Mary. The Church is nothing other than "the family of God." . . .Para. 1656: In our own time, in a world often alien and even hostile to faith, believing families are of primary importance as centers of living, radiant faith. For this reason the Second Vatican Council, using an ancient expression, calls the family the Ecclesia domestica (LG 11; cf. FC 21). It is in the bosom of the family that parents are "by word and example . . . the first heralds of the faith with regard to their children. They should encourage them in the vocation which is proper to each child, fostering with special care any religious vocatio11).
